Mortgage Rate Watch: Mortgage rates in the U.S. fell from an 11-week high, decreasing borrowing costs for homebuyers as speculation intensified that the Federal Reserve will pare its stimulus next week, Bloomberg News reports. Good Morning! Toll Brothers Inc., the largest U.S. luxury-home construction company and the builder of four golf communities on the GCH Network, reported fiscal 4th-quarter earnings that beat analyst estimates as prices for its houses climbed. GCHN Communities include Jupiter CC, Jupiter, FL and Dominion Valley CC, Haymarket, VA.

Net income for the three months through October was $94.9 million, or 54 cents a share, the Horsham, Pennsylvania-based company said in a statement. Builders are benefiting from a tight supply of existing houses on the market, which is boosting values even as rising mortgage rates softens demand in some markets.–David Lott, Founder/Publisher

Mortgage News: U.S. mortgage rates jumped to the highest since September as investors speculated that the Federal Reserve will slow bond purchases aimed at keeping borrowing costs down, Bloomberg News said. Mortgage rates have climbed from a near-record lows in May as the Fed weighs how soon it should scale back its stimulus.

Purchases of new homes rebounded in October from the lowest level in more than a year, indicating buyers are starting to take higher rates in stride. New-home sales jumped 25% to a 444,000 annualized pace, following a 354,000 rate in the prior month that was the weakest since April 2012, the Commerce Department said Wednesday.–David Lott, Founder/Publisher

The average rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage dropped to 4.22% from an eight-week high of 4.35%, Freddie Mac said in a statement today.

Mortgage Rate Watch: Mortgage rates increased for a second consecutive week, with the benchmark 30-year fixed mortgage rate climbing to a 2-month high of 4.48%, according to Bankrate.com’s weekly national survey.
A reduction in homeowners’ negative equity, which had been limiting sales in markets hard hit by the housing crash, has enabled more people to list properties, according to Bloomberg News. More than 2.5 million homes have returned to positive equity, in which the property is worth more than what’s owed, in the three months through June as prices gained, according to CoreLogic.–David Lott, Founder/Publisher

Mortgage Watch: U.S. mortgage rates rose for a second week as reports of an improving economy spurred speculation that the Federal Reserve may slow stimulus efforts. The average rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage jumped to 4.35%, the highest in eight weeks, from 4.16%, Freddie Mac said in a statement today

Yields for 10-year Treasuries, a benchmark for home loans, jumped last week after data showed U.S. payrolls and gross domestic product grew more than economists projected. Mortgage Rate Watch: The average rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage climbed to 4.16% at the close of last week. Prices for single-family homes climbed in 88% of U.S. cities in the third quarter as buyers competed for limited inventories, according to the National Association of Realtors. The nationwide median price for a previously owned house rose 12.5% from a year earlier to $207,300, the group reported yesterday.

 

Contracts (USPHTMOM) to buy existing residences dropped the most in more than three years in September, the Realtors association said last week.
