> Woodside, Aiken SC is encouraging community residents and local families to join in the celebration of America’s 250th birthday on Fri., July 4 from 7 to 10 p.m. A live musical performance by Preston & Weston will be the featured event, along with a fireworks finale hosted by The Reserve Club but also viewable from the Village at Woodside after sunset.
Lobster Dog, Uprooted Vegan, The Skinny Taco and Sunset Slush will have their food trucks on property. Meanwhile the Village Café will be open late serving BBQ sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, gelato and beverages. Send me more information about Woodside!
Bird Nest Monitoring at Palmetto Bluff, SC
Palmetto Bluff, SC: Monitoring bird nest activity with Cornell.
> Palmetto Bluff, Bluffton SC has organized through its high-profile Conservancy a large contingent of resident members to monitor bird nest activity and track songbird behavior throughout the summer season. The Conservancy monitors more than 70 nest boxes across Palmetto Bluff’s 20,000 acres of diverse habitat from mid-March through mid-August, documenting bird nest building, egg-laying, and chick–hatching at each site.
The bird nest data goes directly to a citizen science program run by the Cornell University Lab of Ornithology. The Conservancy also participates in Global Big Day, an annual event organized by Cornell’s lab, in which birders worldwide document as many species as possible in a single day.
