in News, Retirement LivingAmateur golf league Mediocre Golf Association (MGA) has added six new U.S. chapters to its expanding recreational club of so-so golfers following a recent Golf Magazine article about the company.
In the two weeks since Golf’s light-hearted interview with MGA co-founder Jon Morley, the Association has launched affiliates in Athens County (Ohio), Nashville, El Paso, Miami, Fresno County (CA) and Tucson, increased local chapter membership and received 54 chapter requests from across the U.S., Australia, Costa Rica and Fiji.
New Chapters, Big Event
“I’m excited to see these new chapters popping up, especially when you consider the new season doesn’t start until March,” said Morley, noting that the league’s current season will wrap up in two weeks at the sold-out Mediocre Golf Association World Championship event November 13th and 14th at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada. Over 190 players will compete in the 2-day event.
Until then, Morley will be giving his new players some inspiration: “We’re shipping them a bonus trophy so they can run a practice event this winter before starting the official MGA events next March.”
Started On a Whim
Started on a whim in 2006 by Morley and co-founder Willie Dills in San Francisco with the tag line ‘Face it, you suck‘, the Mediocre Golf Association has grown to over 70 chapters in four countries and boasts a YouTube channel, fantasy league and regular schedule of local monthly tournaments to determine the best kinda-alright golfer in the league.
